Born in 1993 and based in south of France, Maxime Siau develops a singular practice at the crossroads of ceramics, sculpture, and a reflection on our relationship with time, objects, and the environment. His work, both sensitive and conceptual, explores fundamental tensions: the living and the fixed, the ephemeral and the permanent, the functional object and its persistence as a trace or residue.

After various experiences in France and Los Angeles, Maxime Siau chose porcelain for its fragility and delicacy, which he boldly transforms into creations that are at once poetic and critical. Before fully dedicating himself to art, he held several professional roles, R&D consultant in Paris for major brands and restaurant director in Los Angeles, that shaped his awareness of consumer society and his ecological consciousness.

Graduating top of his class in Applied Arts and Product Design in Nice, he further trained in an art foundry, before completing a residency in Monaco in 2021.

Through his body of works « MADE IN CHINA », Maxime Siau plays on the semantic ambiguity of the word china, which in English refers both to China and to porcelain. This linguistic shift creates a conceptual dialogue between "made in China," a symbol of contemporary mass production, and the ancestral craft of Chinese porcelain, particularly that of the Ming dynasty. By imagining our everyday objects as if they had been made several centuries ago, the artist reverses the logic of industrial production and questions contemporary hierarchies of value. He contrasts the beauty of slow, precise, handcrafted gestures with the efficiency-driven logic of mass-produced objects.
